Waghalter’s Violin Concerto performed at Gala Concert in Warsaw’s Teatr Wielki
Ignatz Waghalter’s Violin Concero in A Major, Opus 15, was performed on October 27, 2014 in Warsaw’s historic Teatr Wielki at a Gala Concert celebrating the Grand Opening of the Core Exhibit at the Museum of the History of Polish Jewry. The event was attended by an audience of more than 1700 people from all over the world.
The program also included works by Aleksander Tansman, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Grzegorz Fitelberg, and Karol Rathaus.
A statement released by the Teatr Wielki explained that the program selected for the Gala Concert “consists of works of composers who survived the Second World War and have left beautiful examples of inseparable bonds between Jewish and Polish cultures. We will hear pieces by 20th century composers, both well known and those whom we should get to know. Their music is a part of the most valuable European music. In this music we find dramatic emotions, sometimes reminiscences of personal experiences. But first of all the music looks to the future with hope and faith.”
